Chapter Ten

“First off,” Korya started as Vers crossed zis arms and sat down once again, “I didn’t know anything about you or Vers or what was going on. I was just deciphering some info I pulled from the White.”

“Understood.” Asher’s voice was calm, and the tension she’d felt rising eased the moment she started speaking. It seemed now that she was doing as she promised, Asher was giving her a little -- trust was not the right word. Consideration, maybe? Yes, he was giving her due consideration and his mindscape lightened even more. “After all, you have no reason to track down me or Vers. I understand that this was just coincidence. Please continue.”

“Wow.” Korya snorted. “You get polite when you get your way.”

“And that wasn’t a temper tantrum you threw after we got here? And wasn’t it nearly the same thing when we were sitting in that diner, before we became living targets for the Booby Quartet? I believe you’re spoiled, demanding, and not very kind to the mental needs of others.” Vers wasn’t going to cut her a break here and she knew it.

“Hey, I was running for my life. I didn’t know who you were and I was terrified.”

“Why’d you run in the first place?” Vers crossed zis arms and peered at her. “It seems strange and confusing to me that you would run… unless you were doing something you had no damn good reason for doing. I mean, that’s the reason why I run most of the times, and then only if the thing I’m running from is bad enough to kick Asher’s ass.”

“I should kick your ass.” Asher’s voice sounded amused and again, Korya felt the tickling sensation rush over her body.

“Then at least it would be getting used.” Vers pouted. “I’ve been celibate for far too long and you know it, Ash. I’m not built like you. If I don’t use it, I just might lose it and that would be a tragedy for everyone concerned.”

“Then it’s a good thing no one here is concerned about your dusty, unused ass.”

“It is not dusty.” Vers pouted harder. “It’s very clean and warm and silky smooth. All the things my lovers praise and that you would never understand because, alas, no one is interested in your flat, overly hard ass.”

Korya was doing her best not to laugh. She was amazed her emotions were swinging around from pole to pole so easily. She’d been in tears moments ago and now here she was, doing her best not to giggle.

“He has a nice ass,” Korya pointed out.

“The best that money can buy,” Vers agreed easily, and the whole mindscape wavered as Asher, for the first time, let out a genuine laugh.

“You know I do squats and lift weights to keep the human parts all caught up,” Asher teased back. “You’re just jealous because if you didn’t work out as much as you do, your ass would be as flat as a wall.”

“Bitch,” Vers snarled and Asher laughed even harder.
