Kit had straightened up Elijah’s house, which was a breeze, because the man was relatively neat.

The leather part was a little more challenging because he’d never done it before, but honestly, it was pleasant work, and it made Elijah so happy that he was pleased to do it.

Elijah spent most of that time working at a laptop in an office that was probably meant to be a tiny bedroom. It had nice light, but was very tight, and also had a little echo because he could hear almost all of Elijah’s phone conversations.

Next time, he would bring his earbuds. Then he could potter and not hear stuff.

When he was finished, he could hear that Elijah was still on the phone, so he sat down on the floor and started checking emails, phone to his ear.

“Mhm. That’s all you need. Let me know when it’s done, and I’ll arrange a notary. Enjoy your vacation.” Elijah hung up the phone, then typed for a minute or two before closing the laptop. “All done?”

“Yes, Sir. I was listening to emails.” And he was doing good.

“I’m looking forward to wearing those boots you cleaned up for me. They look great.” Elijah turned in his seat, smiling at him. “What would you like to do? Take a walk? Are you hungry?”

He was easy. He wanted to be with Elijah and spend some time. “We can walk. Would you like me to take you to supper, Sir? I totally will.”

“I’d like some air. Maybe we can walk a little, then grab a quick bite and come back here? Or… do you need to go back to your place?”

“No, Sir. I’m good for a day or two. I checked my mails and charged my phone.” And he didn’t have any huge projects going. Huge. God, he was funny.

Elijah seemed pleased and stood. “Good. I like having you here. Come on.” Elijah offered a hand to help him up. “I have something for you.”

Oh. Now he was curious. He took the hand, unfolding himself. “I like being with you.”

Elijah led him through the apartment to the playroom and opened the door. “Go on in and kneel, please. There is a cushion there if you’d like to use it.”

“Yes, Sir.” Oh, that was thoughtful as all get-out. He did appreciate the consideration for his knees.

Elijah opened the armoire while he got settled and fished around, then came back to him and placed a short black chain necklace in his fingers. “Your first collar. It’s not the gift you’ll eventually earn from me, this one is just… a reminder. And a promise.”

“Oh… is it weird to be excited as anything?” It didn’t matter if it was weird, right? It was what it was.

“No. I’m excited too.” Elijah smiled down at him and took the chain back, then put it around his neck. “There’s a trick to the clasp. I’m sure you could figure it out if you tried long enough, but don’t try.” He got a wink. “The whole point is that no one takes it off but me.
