Almost instantly, he sends a message back.

Todd: Just thought you deserved a little something for the special person that you are.

Me: Aww. Thank you again. That’s so sweet of you to say.

Todd: Would you like to have dinner with me tonight?

I drop the phone down on the table after reading his last message. Did he just really ask me to dinner?

Me: Seriously?

Todd: Yes. Seriously. I feel as though I’ve neglected you lately. How does 7 o’clock sound?

Me: Okay, I guess.

Todd: See you then.

Me: ☺

As I place the phone down on the table I notice my hands are trembling. I admit, I desperately need to get out of here for a little while because I’m going crazy staying in every single day. Other than my trips to the doctor, the grocery store and the library, I never go anywhere. Besides, this is just a friendly outing. Right? Todd knows how I feel about dating and relationships so I don’t know why I’m getting so worked up about it.

I go back and reread his texts again just to make sure I read them correctly. Oh, Lord could this be a ...date?

I decide to do something special for myself, something I’ve not done in a very long time. It’s time I get out of here.

I slip on a pair of sandals and grab my purse and keys. Just last week after leaving Dr. Crane’s office, I saw a sign for a nail salon. Since my belly has gotten so big, I’ve sort of let my toe nails go. This is the perfect opportunity for a pedicure. The only thing missing is Rebecca. We always got our nails done together—there was even a time we splurged on a massage. Those were the days.

I make the short drive into town and find the nail salon with no problem. I pull into the closest parking spot I can find to the entrance then glance around before getting out of my car. I hope that one day I’ll be able to go places without living in fear of Brian seeing me. I know it’s only been a short time since I left—merely a few weeks—but it’s eventually got to get better. I can’t live like this forever.

Apparently I’ve come to the salon at a good time because the ladies don’t seem to mind doing a little extra. Not only do they talk me into a manicure, but I get to spend additional time in the massage chair. It’s so relaxing and just what I need.

When I’m finished, there’s still about an hour or so before I need to head back. So, I walk down the side of the street checking out all the little boutiques and gift shops. I’m amazed at all these cute stores. A little further down I see the sign for the Williams Family Pharmacy. I consider stopping in but talk myself out of it. What if Todd’s there putting in a few hours before he heads home for...our date. Just thinking about it makes me nervous all over again.
