Jarad awoke with his kitchen ceiling in clear view. He tried to blink and rub his eyes as-if he awoke from a short nap, but his view remained unchanged in front of his eyes.

Oh Christ, I have one hell of a headache. I must have collapsed after that drink. Why can't I move my hands? I can see clear enough, but I can't seem to move. Jesus, what if I'm paralyzed from the fall. I should be able to move. He tried to move his neck, noting the same failed response from his body.

Shit, I can't even move my neck. This is really serious. Shit. Calm down, don't get too worked up, you need to think this through. I need to concentrate, really hard. Focus. Just try and move your hand, wiggle the fingers a little bit. Concentrate!

I don't feel a thing moving. Maybe they are pinned. Okay, no problem, let's try the right hand and fingers. First the pinky, then ring finger, middle finger, pointer finger; spirit fingers wiggling. Damn it, nothing! Maybe they are moving, but my hand is asleep from being twisted under my body. I'll feel them soon, when the pins and needles start. I just need to start the blood flowing.

Jarad concentrated very hard, trying to tighten his muscles in his hand, spreading the fingers as wide as he could with enough tension to cause a normal hand to shake or tremor as blood rushed to the muscles, flexing the tendons of his hand quickly. He didn't feel a thing.

Alright, maybe I should start somewhere else. My toes, of course! They wouldn't be pinned! I think I fell backwards, so right foot, here we go. Let's begin moving. We need to free my hands from under my body. In the back of his mind, Jarad worried that he sustained an injury that paralyzed part of his body, but reason slipped from him as panic began to settle into his mind.

Nothing, I don't feel a fucking thing. Left foot, are you going to listen to me? No? Fine! Christ, what am I going to do?

His view suddenly jerked slightly, his head bobbling slightly as his shoulder pushed down away from his neck, repositioning itself.

Yes! There we go, lift up a little bit... come on Jarad, you're doing it!

His body lay still for a few more grueling moments before it jerked again as the head flopped to the side, staring at his cabinet doors under the tabletop microwave where he kept his pots and pans. His right arm pulled out from under him, resting palm down on the floor.

Oh my head! My whole head hurts and I can't keep my skull straight. At least the flexing worked, because my arm is moving again. Maybe I can push myself up enough to free my other arm. I think I feel my hand palm down.

Jarad's body lifted slightly, a few centimeters off the floor as his right hand pushed down on the kitchen tiles. His left arm extended itself
