Chapter Thirteen
#xa0;
Early October
London
If Drew never saw another model again, it would be too soon. Although his company wasn’t one of the big players, they’d found some space in Milan, London and New York to show off their collection and had been favorably received, resulting in a major store making overtures to him and Joy to work for them. At first, Drew had thought the guy wanted to get into his pants, but after they’d chatted over a drink in the hotel bar, he’d offered Drew his card, so maybe he was legit. Drew had to admit he was tempted—after all it would mean creating his designs without worrying about finance.
Meanwhile, on the side, his lace-wear line for men was going from strength to strength. He had more questions roaming around his head than answers. He needed to sit down with Joy and discuss the pros and cons. Giving up running everything for himself didn’t seem like such a bad idea after so much stress. A knock on the door distracted him from his worries.
Reluctantly, he dragged himself from the sofa and ambled to see who had disturbed him. Peering through the spyhole, he wasn’t surprised to see Ben and Jonty on his doorstep carrying pizza and wine. He opened the door then returned to the sofa without words and let them follow him in.
“You look like shit,” Ben said, handing the wine to his partner, Jonty, who immediately disappeared into the small kitchen.
“It’s good to see you, as well,” Drew replied, running his fingers through his hair and pushing his glasses up his nose as he collapsed back on the sofa. “I’ve hardly stopped for the last month.”
“We know,” Jonty said, coming into the room. “So we’ve brought pizza, garlic bread, onion rings and enough wine to ensure a good time.” He sat on Ben’s lap in the armchair, dangling his legs over the side.
“No offense, you two, but I could do without the PDAs, as well.” Jealousy reared its ugly head as visions of the Scotsman he’d left behind weeks ago filled his memory.
“Why won’t you admit you’re missing your cowboy?” Jonty said, wrapping his arm around his partner.
“Because there’s no point.”
“Then you need to get out there and get over him rather than sitting over your drawing board doodling Stetsons and snapping at everyone. I’m surprised Joy and the team haven’t left.”
Yes, he had been like a bear with a sore head, but so much rode on these shows. Would they get orders? Would anyone famous pick up his designs? Did he care? What the fuck? He sat up and rubbed his eyes. He was tired. Several people had expressed interest and there was that offer. In this business, beggars couldn’t be choosers. He’d wanted this all his life, hadn’t he? He was a whisker away from getting real notice. Of course, he cared. But did he care enough?
“I’m too tired for clubbing and who would want anything to do with a grouch like me? I’ve bigger bags under my eyes than the suitcases I’ve been dragging around for weeks.
