I have also developed contests that promote post-shift Action Attention which can also be highly effective as motivational inspiration.
The TSR Dart Throw comes to my mind right away when I think about this concept. Throughout the shift, TSR's are handed raffle tickets after achieving certain calling goals. If a total team goal is reached, all TSR's with raffle tickets turn them in for chances to throw darts at a dart board after the shift is over. Each raffle ticket can be worth a dart, two darts, or whatever is decided by management. If a TSR has 10 raffle tickets and you have set the value at two darts each, that TSR gets to throw 20 darts.
The key ingredient here is the fact that someone with three raffle tickets could win over someone with ten, depending on how well the darts are thrown. Points are accumulated and winners are announced.
And all this takes place after the shift. (One additional thought here: I usually close the shift out 10 minutes early when I run this to get started with the dart throw.)
Real time or post-shift, take your pick. Better yet, mix it up. BUT DO IT.!
Take a look at the contests you're running now as well as all the ideas coming up in Chapter 8 and see if they have opportunities for Action Attention. If they do, can it be enhanced? And if they don't, can you find a spot for some?
I hope so. Action Attention will always add that little extra that will make your contests more exciting and fun for your people, and remember, attitude drives effort.
