“I don’t care,” Jon said, avoiding the temptation to look

at Tim Dwyer. “Jason is in charge of the Lighthorsemen. I

work for the federal court already. I got all the authority I

need in these parts, and I have a posse to round up.”

Sighing, Potts stepped aside. Jon walked past him.

“Wait.”

The simple, softly spoken work made Jon freeze. He

turned, knowing full well those damn blue eyes of the young

reporter’s would be beckoning to him.

“I promise not to get in your way. Just let me ride along

for a day at least.”

“I am tracking a wanted man. You know what that

means?”

Tim swallowed and nodded.

Jon knew the city boy had no idea what he was asking.

“It’s too dangerous.”

He turned away and headed out of the hotel dining

room. At the front door that soft male voice stopped him

again.

“Please. Just a day—two at the most.”

Jon spun on his heel. “I told you it’s too dangerous.”

“It’s a risk I’m willing to take.”

“I will not be held responsible for what happens out

there.”

“I understand,” Tim told him, those damn blue eyes

intent, focused, and letting Jon know he understood exactly

the meaning behind the words.
