Whether you are an afficionado or an amateur Aix-en-Provence is the place to experience opera. The festival tends to feature five major operas and a host of subsidiary events, including performances of everything from classical music to flamenco guitar. Now over 70 years old, the Festival d’Aix even has an offshoot event, Aix-in-June, offering plays, masterclasses and classical music performances across the city and out into the countryside, taking place in venues such as Silvacane Abbey. A €20 pass for all the events in June is available. For the main festival’s operas and events, ticket sales open in February and booking is essential.
