Cabal was used to developing intricate backup teams and plans. They even had plans in place for war — they controlled everything.

However, this incident was something wholly unplanned for them. Nick was not happy about the sudden update. Spontaneous chaos had high stake consequences since it was incredibly unpredictable. The sky-high usage of the app could have been their end if the world’s governmental agencies started investigating this rupture. For once, Nick felt that Kairi had lost control.

“Mr. Harridan, may I come in?” Freya asked, poking her head in the door.

He looked up at her and felt a sudden urge to hug her, craving human contact.

“Yes, come in,” he replied.

“Ms. Kairi sent you these files this morning,” Freya said. “You weren’t in the office, so I kept them safe.” She handed him the sealed package.

“Thank you, Freya,” he replied.

To his surprise, she just stood there and didn’t leave.

“Is there something else you want to say?” He raised an eyebrow.

“Not particularly.” She smiled at him. “But Kelly, Ms. Kairi’s assistant, has been getting too comfortable with me. She asks about you a lot. Almost every conversation ends with you,” Freya replied hesitantly. ”I don’t know what it means, but I thought you should know.”

Kairi is keeping tabs on me now, Nick thought.

“Do let me know if anything else goes on, alright? You may leave now.” Nick waved her away.

Nick opened the package, and a stack of papers spilled out of it. He glanced over the documents and was astonished to discover that they detailed the War of Rusziye and the artifact linked to its wreckage. Had her sister found another artifact? Or had she been hiding this all along? A pit of hatred grew in his heart. Was she going to release this virus to the public? That would be devastating!

In that instant, he thought about confronting her. It would be a big deal, and it would lead to open conflict. No, he needed to work in the shadows. Slowly, he began to devise his own plan. He would support her, yet silently undermine her work at every angle. He needed his own team. A team to serve justice.
