“Sasha, I’m so sorry for your loss. I can’t believe this is happening to you. The shelter is always available to you, don’t worry,” Helen says, nodding.

The tears fall down my face, and I gasp for air, trying to still the rapid beat of my heart.

“Thank you,” I whisper, clasping my hands.

I walk into the bedroom, where several women are claiming the bed for the night. I walk over to the corner and fall onto the bed scooting back to lean against the wall and staring up at the ceiling. I zone out, thinking and thinking.

I’ve heard many stories, but I pray these women will not bother me, especially since I’ve been serving them for a while.

I need to figure out what to do and where to go, and I need a job. I don’t have money for school, so that’s out. I don’t know how hard the mafia and motorcycle gang are looking for me. But the FBI agent seemed to be straight.

Ha!

I’m so tired, but I can’t sleep.

“Hey,” Sharon walks into the room, sitting at the end of the bed.

“Hi,” I say, crossing my arms.

“What’s up? Why are you here,” Sharon asks, tilting her head.

“My life just exploded,” I say in a low voice.

Sharon scoots up closer to me to hear me, staring at me.

“What happened,” Sharon asks.

“My parents were killed, and I don’t have anywhere to go,” I whisper.

“Hell, that sucks,” Sharon says, nodding.

“I need to find a job,” I say, biting my lip.

“Yeah, good luck with that,” Sharon says, pursing her lips and shaking her head.

“Yeah, that’s what I need, luck,” I say, nodding.
