Chapter Six

Carys was riding a high of endorphins and happy sex afterglow as she moved down the hall toward wherever it was Darrick was taking her. If she had to guess, he wanted to take her to the doctor to get the bite checked out, which probably made sense. It was starting to hurt a bit now, but there was a dark part of her mind that enjoyed the pain and was thrilled to have been marked by him during sex.

Yeah, that little tendency of hers had brought her more than a few problems back on Earth with the few lovers she’d had then. At least Darrick didn’t mind in the moment, even if his views on aftercare were limited to a visit to medical.

It was fun not fully being able to communicate with him while having sex. At no point did she feel as though he wasn’t listening to her, and yet she had this blindness to not being able to understand the soft noises that had come from him. They might have been words, or they simply could have been his sex noises – either way, she’d loved them.

What she wasn’t enjoying were the fearful glances they were getting as they made their way through the corridors of the space station once more. These Grus weren’t exactly a trusting species, which should alarm her more than it currently did. Not that their attention was fixated on her at all; no, every single person was staring at Darrick. It probably wasn’t helping that he looked as though he wanted to murder someone, growling and glaring at the Grus as they approached.

“You might want to relax a little bit. I don’t need to speak your language to know you’re making people nervous.”

Instead of taking her advice, Darrick put a hand on her shoulder and used it to move her closer to his side. Shit, that wasn’t going to make things better for them. It also had the unfortunate side effect of making her bruised area hurt as his finger grip was dangerously close to where he’d bit her. “Darrick, can you please move your hand?”

He relaxed his grip slightly but kept it in place.

Thankfully, they’d reached their destination. The doors slid open to reveal what was obviously a medical facility. It was far bigger than the one that they had back on the Kraken; five exam tables with scanners and medical equipment lined the back of the room, and there appeared to be an additional corridor in the middle but it was blocked off with a glass door.

Darrick maneuvered her over to one of the available beds, picked her up and set her down on it. He pointed at her, then the bed and left her sitting there.

She couldn’t help but roll her eyes. “Yes fine, I’ll stay here.” Maybe she wouldn’t learn the language if all he did was point and glare at her.

The staff in the medical facility was currently keeping their distance from them both, which wasn’t helping Darrick’s mood.
