There is a frog. It decides to go to the Ganga River. On the way, it gets maimed by wandering cattle. Its soul enters the body of a baby about to be born in the family of a small-time trader. On becoming an adult, the baby boy starts disliking the family profession. So, he decides to go to Indra. Now Indra looks at this boy and feels very amused that such a boy who knows next to nothing has such an ambition. So, Indra sarcastically tells him that he would employ this boy as his advisor. The offer is promptly accepted. But Indra fails to pay to the boy all the big salary he had agreed to pay. On a morning when the boy is sitting outside his house doing datun , brushing his teeth with twig of a tree, he spots a woman who is cleaning the streets. And he is smitten by her. He approaches herâ¦but he only says âYou are my sister. What can I give to you?â She says, âNormally I donât get good clothes. If you give me some clothes, Iâll be happy.â So, he decides to give her clothes stolen from Indraniâs robes made of gold. A few days later this woman goes to Indraâs city, the Indraprasth. Indra sees her and gets very wild. âOnly the Indrani can use such clothes, how can this woman use such clothes? Who is the idiot who has given her such clothes?â So, the boy is accused. The Indra-sabha is convened. âYou must immediately be sacked because only Indrani can wear such clothes,â commands Indra. So, this boy is sacked. But he says, âWait, youâre sacking me but you never paid my wages, so give all those wages to me.â Indra says, âBut I never kept any account.â It was indeed a huge amount. Indra ends up giving him several maunds of coins. The boy says, âOf course, I have to go back home but before that why donât I go and visit Ganga once.â So, he fares forth to Ganga and on the way, one of the bullocks of the cart in which he is travelling collapses. It is already dark. There is forest on all sides. So this boy prays to Surya. Surya appears and demands, âI can rescue you provided you give me some bribe.â Half of the coins go to Surya. Immediately, the bullock comes back to life and the young boy, rather the young man, reaches the Ganga River. Struck by her beauty, he says, âWhat will I do with all the wealth that I have, Iâm going to give half of my wealth to Ganga.â So he sinks half of the money into the river. Then on his way back Surya stops him and says, âWhere is my half?â He says, âbut I gave your half to Ganga, my half is with me.â Suryadeva says, âthis is unfair, this is not how a self-respecting tribal ever behaves. You are behaving like a wolf, youâll become a wolf.
