VAREK
I watched as the G-series SUV pulled up to the curb and stood back as Talon stepped out of the driverâs side and walked around to the back passenger door. My fated was inside and waiting for me.
After the news of her receiving an anonymous card in the mail with such an ominous message, I didnât think it would be possible to let her leave The Tower again. I knew it would be a fight since she loved her job working as a nursing assistant at the nursing home, but her safety was worth more. I had acknowledged to myself earlier that she might be angry, but Iâd rather see her safe and not talk to me than for her to not be talking to me because she was dead.
She was so fragile. I saw her delicate bone structure, so easily damaged, as she climbed down from the height of the vehicle. A height that I took for granted as I had no problems stepping in or out - same as any of my men. But her small stature made her look like a child that needed a boost from an adoring parent.
She turned to face me, and I caught my breath at the vision before me that was decidedly un-childlike.
She was stunning.
Her hair was down, the lights from the streetlamps nearby casting a glow that made the silvery white strands of her hair look like moonbeams. Her alabaster skin held an ethereal quality that made me think that she might be a goddess sent to this realm to either save me or drown me in my own destruction.
Her form was slight, but for all her thin, waif-like form, she was, without a doubt, a woman. The curves were not pronounced but sinewy and seductive. She moved with grace and poise as she walked toward me. Her smile had dimmed as she stepped closer, and I realized that I had not greeted her, nor had I shown her any of the appreciation I had been thinking.
I stepped forward to meet her in the middle and wrapped one arm around her hips, just under her ass, and the other I held under her hair at the nape of her neck. Nothing in this world could have stopped me from plundering her mouth deep with my own as I lifted her. Our height differences were dramatic, but I would find the best, most enjoyable ways to circumvent any difficulties. There was no need to cause either of us discomfort trying to reach the other when she was small enough for me to simply pick her up and bring her to my height.
She sighed into my mouth, and her arms wrapped tightly around my shoulders. I felt one of her hands delve into my hair, holding on as tightly to me as I was to her.
The thing with fated mates was, though the fates knew their job well, it was never a guarantee that the fated couple would find the other appealing in either looks or personality.
