Chapter Seven
Torin stood in the trees, watching Sheehan and Michael’s cottage. He knew Thomas was there alone, as his brother and his mate had gone on a hunt. It couldn’t hurt to check on the boy. He could hardly get around on his own.
Torin growled. He’d been reprimanded by both of his parents for the interest he’d taken in Thomas. It was high time he was mated to his intended, they had told him, and the date had been set for six days hence.
So why torture himself? Why keep seeing the boy?
Cursing under his breath, he headed for the cottage.

Thomas stood in the kitchen staring at the upper cabinets. How in the hell did Michael reach anything? He was a couple of inches taller than his brother and he could barely reach the first shelf.
Bouncing on his feet, he leaped up and managed to grab hold of a mug on his third try.
Thomas hissed in surprise at the harsh grip on his neck, dropping the cup and watching it shatter. He whimpered, his body chilling as he recognized the feel of the large hand.
“You lying little shit,” the deep voice thundered in his ear, as Thomas was dragged out the cottage.
His heart pounded; the fear and shame overwhelming as everyone watched him trot behind Torin without so much as a limp. The male held his hair in a fierce grip and Thomas’s eyes were leaking tears by the time the Alpha pushed him into a chair in his office.
Torin was furious and Thomas’s teeth chattered, he was so scared.
The Alpha called in Brody and gave him an order in a calm, cold voice. “Call the clan together to meet in my parent’s yard. Thomas and Michael are going to admit their lies and suffer the consequences. My Da will dole out the punishment.” Brody nodded and was gone in a flash.
Thomas stuttered as he spoke, his shaking intense. “Why d … do you assume M … Michael had any th … thing to do with this?”
Torin met his eyes and Thomas looked down, not able to meet the stare. “Are you telling me he didn’t know about this?”
Thomas clamped his mouth shut. He knew better than to lie to Torin again, but he didn’t want to put any blame on his brother either.
He flinched as Torin lifted him to his feet, pulling his hair back and forcing him to look up at the Alpha as he sat on the edge of his desk. “Lying is not tolerated in this clan ever for any reason. Is that clear?” he growled.
Thomas nodded, his eyes filling with tears. “I’m sorry,” he whispered. “What I did was terribly wrong. I … I just wanted to stay … and it seemed … harmless at the time.”
Torin stared at him for a long while, saying nothing. Then Brody put his head in the door and the Alpha stood, taking Thomas’s arm in his hand and leading him outside.
Thomas trembled in earnest as Torin led him across the community grounds.
