The Enoch arrived on Aloysan, but with strict orders from traffic control to remain inside the ship until permitted to open the cargo bay doors. Not wanting any of us to be manhandled and unnecessarily subdued like an earlier time we’d docked on this planet, we obliged and remained onboard, which gave us more time to discuss our plans. My ship was impenetrable, and if we were inside, the Aloysians’ security couldn’t detect any of our conversations. The real problem would occur once we stepped off the ship.

We hadn’t given them much notice of our arrival, though the modified trackers the Cholom had placed inside Brina were activated the moment we left Krenaishian airspace. I was sure the Aloysian government knew long before we entered their atmosphere that we were headed their way, but they hadn’t attempted to contact us, and we didn’t bother to radio in until the ship approached their planet.

Within ninety minutes of parking in the hangar, Vladimir’s voice came over the central comm and requested we open the doors. When the cargo bay doors of the Enoch completely opened, I saw their well-armed soldiers standing in a U-shaped formation around the hangar, but their faces were shielded by black tactical helmets, their bodies covered with full-body armor as they stood at the ready facing the ship. I’d never had the privilege of seeing just what was under these soldiers’ uniforms, and no one had ever told me if they were Aloysans like Brina and Vladimir, or if they were a special breed of sentients or robots. But I had major plans of finding out the moment I entered the hangar.

As on previous visits, within minutes of opening the cargo bay door, Vladimir boarded the ship. The entire crew was lined up, ready to show their respect. Our packs were strapped to our backs, already full of everything we needed to pull off the score. It was unknown if Beef’s camouflage bag would work on this planet, but we took the chance. The CNC, or coin-making machine, was inside that bag, along with pieces of equipment we needed to pull off the heist. We didn’t bother to take weapons off the ship; I was sure these would be spotted immediately by their scanners and efficient x-ray machines. If we needed weapons, we’d take down a few guards and steal theirs.

But the M-46 went everywhere with me, and I had no issues taking this secret weapon off the ship. It was disassembled and in a secret pocket of my pants. No scan or x-ray in outer space or Earth could detect it. After all, this was a camouflage weapon that couldn’t kill, only stun, and it was one of only twenty-four in the entire known galaxy, belonging strictly to God-walker Keepers. I had no idea if the other twenty-three were still out there somewhere, and right now that didn’t matter. I never left the M-46 behind.

“Ah, Keeper McConnell,” Vladimir said on his way up the ramp. “It seems like a lifetime since I saw you and your crew last.
