The bulk of the rooms here are fine but no-frills. However, the 7th floor offers 17 creatively designed duplexes, each sleeping three, with fun themes ranging from Marilyn Monroe to circus and tree house – a good one if you're travelling with kids.

The lush foliage sprouting around and tumbling off the tiered balconies of this guesthouse is eye-catching and apt given its name. Inside, bright-red walls and timber-lined rooms (some without windows) are visually distinctive and there is a small kitchen for preparing food. The location couldn't be better for nightlife, cafes and restaurants.
