Courage is not standing up when everyone else does. Courage is standing up for one's values when everyone else is afraid to. It is the ability to do what has to be done, despite negative consequences. To Gayle, it meant standing up to a man who towered over her, a man capable of belittling anyone, a man who could take revenge on her son.
