The stack of cards slaps the table as I shove them towards Asha. She rifles through them, eyebrows knitted together in concentration, before looking up at me with a sympathetic smile.

"Sorry Lennon, doesn't look like any matches this time. Thanks for coming! Listen, we have an event next month—"

I force a tight smile and a nod. "Thanks anyway," I mutter, straightening my bag.

A stingy wind whips my hair across my face as I step back into the outside. Why did I think speed dating would go any better than everything else in my disaster of a dating life?

I descend into the grimy subway station, fluorescent lights flicker overhead. Maybe I should've just stayed home like I planned--curled up on the couch with a pint of frosted flakes ice cream, scrolling through old gossip blog posts for content. The rumble of an approaching train echoes up the passage. Shit. I pick up my pace, my kicks slapping against concrete.

At least now I can get back home to my sad-ass, single girl night in. Hopefully I can still catch the ice cream shop before it closes.
