Chapter Fifteen

Mina

The rest of the day passed in a blur.

By mid-afternoon, I was way past ready for this day to be over. This itchy uniform couldn’t come off fast enough. I’d spent most of the day freezing in the stupid skirt they made us wear. I scratched my hip and growled. When the uprising was over and the supernatural world recovered, the first thing I planned to do was come back and burn every uniform I find.

I shuffled up the stairwell and headed straight for the common room. As soon as I turned the corner, I saw that the super squad, including the Queen B’s, had assembled. Okay, maybe I was getting a little too enthusiastic about the group. I brushed off those thoughts and made a bee-line for my friends.

Sacha was the first to glance over his shoulder. The corner of his lip curled, and he rose to greet me. He slid my arm inside his, and he led us over to the plush couches. I scooted as close to him as I could get and leaned against his shoulder. He put his arm around me, and now I was tucked comfortably inside in his arm.

“I think I’m going to live here,” I informed Sacha as I closed any of the remaining space left between us. I breathed in his natural woodsy scent. “You smell nice.”

He chuckled. “You may not think so after a run.”

Alexei and Kiera sat together on a sofa across from us. Each of them had their eyes glued to something he was holding in his hand. Gears and gadgets were sticking out of the sides, which meant he likely built it. I didn’t bother asking, either. They both had EarPods in their ears and had no idea I was even there.

The Queen B’s shared a separate sofa. Each of them stared at their phones, ignoring the fact that cameras and guards were hiding in every corner. They acted as if they didn’t care if they got caught. It amazed me how many supes had somehow managed to smuggle in electronic devices.

Kiera pulled out her EarPods and shot me a knowing stare. “Nice speech.”

“What are you talking about?” I asked, already knowing the answer.

She took the gadget out of Alexei’s hand and turned it around. I could see what was on her screen. They were watching videos on YouTube. He’d built a handheld device that hijacked the academy’s internet connection without triggering their upgraded security system. I should’ve been surprised, but we all knew Alexei was a genius.

“Your speech is all over YouTube Green.”

YouTube Green was the special premium subscription only available to supernaturals. The humans had no idea that many of the biggest companies were run and owned by supes in secret. “It wasn’t a speech. I was just trying to calm things down.”

“Calming who down?” Sacha questioned in a concerned tone.

“It was no big deal,” I insisted, noticing the shift in his demeanor. “Things got a little heated when we were watching a video about our history, and some didn’t appreciate the walk down memory lane.
