I’m sitting on the couch, finally relaxing. The TV is on as background noise. Practice this morning was brutal, and everything is sore. Coach worked us extra hard. Arden and I picked up a pizza on the way back home to the apartment. Is it the best thing to eat? No, of course, not, but… it’s greasy and cheesy as hell and makes us feel better.

I’ve lived with Arden for a couple years now. Ever since I was traded to the Hellbenders. Our apartment is the ultimate bachelor pad, cloaked in dark colors and leather furniture, complete with a massive flat screen TV and a fancy fireplace. The kitchen is huge, but we never really use it. I can’t cook worth shit, and Arden doesn’t like to except for every once in a while.

I shove another greasy slice of pizza in my mouth and close my eyes in delight.

“Hey, why don’t you save those noises for your little omega?”

I roll my eyes at him. “Oh, shut the hell up.”

“Things seem to be going well, though, right?”

“Yeah, man. Things are good. She asked me to help her through her heat. Should be coming up in the next couple weeks.”

He looks over at me, seriousness written all over his face. “You ever done it before?”

“Nah, you?”

He shakes his head, looking at his hands. “Nah, not yet.”

My curiosity is killing me, so I have to ask him. “What’s going on with you and the little beta?”

“I don’t know. I mean, I like her, but she’s a beta. Gabby brings out this side of me that I don’t see often. Like… she’s a great big ray of sunshine to uplift my typical serious mood.”

I elbow him playfully. “She does. You’ve been a lot less crabby these last couple weeks.”

He chuckles. “You have absolutely no room to talk. At least I can keep my paws off her when we’re in a room together with other people. I don’t drag her to a guest bedroom and go all beast mode, must fuck omega, on her.”

I press a hand through my hair as I shift in my seat. Unease sweeping over me. “I can’t fucking help it. She does this to me. I want to be with her constantly. Can’t stop thinking about her. Fucking dreaming about her at night.”

His jaw drops. “You’re serious? I’ve never seen ya like this, man. She’s got you all wrapped up in circles.”

“Yep, and I can’t even complain. She’s my scented.” I say dreamily. God, it still feels like I’m fucking dreaming all this shit up.

“Lucky bastard.” He mumbles, and I have to smile. He’s damn right about that.

Getting up from the couch, I head towards the fridge to grab a couple of beers. Strolling back into the living room, I pass off one of the beers to Arden.

We turn on the highlight reel on ESPN to get caught up on anything we may have missed. “What do you think Boston’s gonna be like next week?”

“Tough. They’re a great team, but they don’t have what we do.
