Sam was losing his ever loving shit. I was trying to keep him calm, but the thought of Lexie out there all alone was making me crazy.

I knew she could handle herself and had been for a very long time. I’d spoken with Cary briefly about what exactly went down when the alphas invaded the farm. He’d told me Lexie had come to his defense when he’d tried to get between the intruders and the girls, and she had some killer moves. She’d run into the fray without hesitation and taken down an alpha on her own, before they got overwhelmed with numbers.

Yet even so. Her potent scent was out and perfuming madly now. She couldn’t pretend to be a beta anymore. She was now essentially catnip for alphas.

Any alpha would become drawn to her as soon as they scented her. Not in the same intense way Sam and I were as her true mates, but they’d feel a heightened attraction. In the lawless world we now seemed to live in, society’s rules wouldn’t hold them back, as few as there were when it came to omegas.

It didn’t help that I could feel her desire spiking on and off. Initially, I had assumed she was getting it on with Dave back here at the farm, and I’d been happy at the idea. A little distracted, but on board with it happening. Our burgeoning pack needed his steadiness.

Yet when we’d landed the helicopter and headed back through the farm gates, our team member on the gate asked me if I knew where Lexie had gone. It seemed Dave had torn out the gates on a dirt bike, telling the guards he was going after Lexie.

“Get to the chopper,” I heard Sam yell to our team, and the words broke me out of my reverie.

“Sam, we don’t have enough fuel to fly around aimlessly. We don’t know where she is.” I put my hand on Sam’s shoulder, trying to calm him, but my mind was only partially on him for once. Most of my focus was on my bond with Lexie, trying desperately to reach her somehow, to know she was okay.

A growl was vibrating low in my chest that I couldn’t swallow down. Sam turned to me. “I don’t give a shit, Dio. She’s out there alone somewhere.”

“Did she come out this way?” I asked the gate guard.

He shook his head rapidly. “No, and I checked with the lower gate guards. She didn’t leave through there either.”

“Could she still be here? Maybe Dave was wrong?” Another one of our team asked.

“No. Dave said she left a note,” the guard replied. He was one of Dave’s young cadets and he was shifting on his feet, looking nervous. His eyes were flitting between all of us, as if he was trying to figure out which one of us was going to bark at him first.

My stomach dropped. What if she had left for good? Where the hell else would she go?

I’d thought she
