NEWS HAD SPREAD THROUGHOUT the ante-city of the sun and snow elves. Some fae saw it as a sign of great things to come; others, a dark omen. Regardless of the stir caused by the ancient, now new again, elves to Atlantea more races prepared to depart for the last time in their lives.

Traveler had found the selkie clan at a ship docked at the Atlantea port. Both leaders greeted the caravan master and his dog.

“Do you depart already?” Traveler asked.

“We have secured our treasures for our people,” Nori said. “We have no more reason to stay now that you are in contact with the celestial elfin queen.”

“I have a request but feel no pressure to accept.”

“You have done much for us, Mr. Traveler. If we can, we will accept, of course,” Otari said.

“It is to aid, Lady Aylen.”

“The rebuilding of Rivermouth,” Nori said.

“You know of this?”

“Queen Anelle is known to the selkies in Atlantea. They made us aware of the history of the kingdom.”

“The construction will begin here.”

“Here?” Nori said with surprise.

“Yes, wise,” Otari said. “You would be protected by Atlantea’s magic.”

“We need laborers.”

“It was a kingdom of warriors against darkness, not just dark fae?” Nori asked.

“Yes, an island kingdom.”

The selkie leaders looked at each other as if communicating without words.

“Would you be interested in joining our water elfess and maiden in this calling?”

“Selkies are not warriors as such,” Otari said. “But a kingdom, any kingdom, has many roles that are equally important to the city and its people.”

“True, all cannot be warrior clerics.”

“We would help her,” Otari said. “Also, we can talk to other selkie clans in Atlantea to aid with the labor.”

“Thank you. Lady Aylen and Maiden Gwyness will be happy to see you again.”

“Their kingdom Rivermouth was destroyed by necromancers?”

Necromancers came in two main varieties: those who practiced dark magic by convening with the dead and those who were the undead and capable of great dark magic.

“Yes, in a way that’s true,” Traveler replied.

“You mean to say elves were involved,” Otari said. “Elves here in Atlantea.”

“Others as well.”

“Selkies are viewed as a quiet and peaceful race, but we have had to contend with fiends,” Otari said.

“Especially when some would think we are some kind of lycanthropes of the sea.”

“Yes, I understand. But for now, we merely construct a beautiful palace.”
