We were dancing, much later, the girls and I, and drinking, it must be said. The cocktail was delicious and packed a far greater punch than I thought at first, and I was kind of feeling a bit buzzed already. It was my turn to order, so I went up to the bar while the girls kept dancing on the other side of the bar. I couldn’t see them, but I knew they were still dancing. I could hear them. I chuckled at that.

The club was dark, with black walls and lots of shiny steel, but liberal use of dark blue upholstery made it warm and mysterious and sexy. I sat at the bar and called the bartender over, asking her for four more of the lovely pink drinks with the froth on them and floral garnish. Mina had picked them out, and I wasn’t really sure what was in them. I’d been too distracted with this mission of theirs, so I’d just said yes. Turned out they were delicious, served in stemmed glasses that were sexy on their own.

I looked down. I looked sexy, too. My dress was low cut, but loose and draped over my body. It was a shimmery dark gray bordering on metallic. I looked like I fit into the bar. Sexy, chic, and a little loose. And full of alcohol. I leaned against the bar and straightened my shoulders.

I reached into my skirt pocket for my phone and my fingers tangled with the condoms Mina made me take.

More sexy. I was on the prowl.

But only for one man. And not the tall Adonis I had been dancing with.

No group chat this time. I texted him.

Me: I miss you.

Cole: Not getting laid?

It was too hard to guess the tone from a text. I didn’t want to tease him about this.

Me: I just agreed with them to throw off the scent; you know that.

Cole: I do?

Wait, was it really working? Was he jealous?

Me: They’re beginning to get suspicious of my feelings for you. I had to do something. They also think you’re with Letty, and they don’t like that. They want to make you jealous.

Cole: The girls say you look super hot. That your dress looks like molten silver, and you look like a goddess of the night. Those were Teddy’s exact words.

That sounded like Teddy. She was a painter and extremely dramatic. But also, I had not taken part in that discussion.

Me: Did they take me off the group text?

Cole: They made a new one. Rafe’s off it, too. He’s being too protective of you.

I had to laugh.

Cole: They say you’re flirting with a guy.

I was surprised. I had been. A little. I had to put on a good show.

Me: Are you jealous?

Cole: Yes.

There was a flutter in my belly I could not help.

Me: You don’t have to be. You’re the only one I want to be with. I’m not looking for another guy.

Cole: Only me?

The girls came up then. Eagle eyes, they saw the next round of drinks coming.
