I left the library in a bit of a haze.

I had a literal hit list of gods to kill in my satchel, and I wasn’t sure whether that was a good thing or not.

When I finally turned back up at the college, the duelists weren’t training as usual. Instead, they were preparing for a five-hour play that would take place later that evening. I listened to them discuss the play’s history and meaning as if they were experts for as long as I could stomach before begging off from the event.

With nothing else to do, I asked one of the butlers if he knew of a place I could train with my bow. I’d enjoyed my practice in the swampkin city and didn’t want to lose my skills while here in Megrave.

“There are several places where you may practice your bow, sir,” the butler told me. “But your best bet is to travel to the high elf neighborhood. You may receive training from one of the many personal trainers for hire that the elves provide. May I call the carriage for you and arrange for a trainer to meet you at their training yard?”

“Oh, sure. Thank you,” I replied, surprised. I guess it made sense that the college would know where people could go to train with other weapons. Surely some of them knew how to fight with something other than the rapier, right?

It turned out I could carry significantly less than the dwarf, even with my enhanced body. Whatever metal the ingots were made of was heavy. After all, I had some experience hauling around goods, and these were several times heavier than anything I’d lifted of their size before.

He spotted me as I came up next to where he was unloading his goods. I waited until he was done, willing my muscles not to start shaking and embarrass me, and then put mine down right where he’d put his. He didn’t acknowledge or speak to me, but he also didn’t yell at me or chase me away, so I figured I was more or less helping.

We worked in silence to unload the wagon together, the only interruption that of the butler, who hurried up to let me know my carriage was ready. When I told him to hold the carriage until I was done helping Reginald, the man gave me such a look of contempt that I had to blink in surprise at the open hostility on his face. A second later, the smooth look
