Chapter Four
Chris didn't want to wake up and tried to resist returning to reality with everything in him. He'd had the most amazing dream about a tall, blond, extremely well-muscled stranger, and they'd just been about to kiss. Also, vacations entitled him to sleep-ins. The birdsong outside meant it was barely sunrise, and that was no time to get up. But his nose itched, and he wanted to know why. If it was a mosquito, he'd have to get up and hunt it. He hated those little bloodsuckers with a vengeance.
He slowly opened his eyes, hoping to surprise the beast. Seeing no monsters, instead he found a ray of sunshine that had made it inside the tent through the tiny opening he'd left at the top of the zipper. Why it aimed straight for his nose, or so it seemed, he'd never know. It tickled something awful, and he reached up to scratch the itch, promising himself he could go back to sleep once he was done.
"Good morning." The rumbling voice came from his left, and sounded less than two feet away.
"Crap!" His heartbeat increased as he tried to get enough oxygen into his lungs to scream with shock, possibly attract help. There was someone in the tent with him!
"Excuse me?" The voice sounded surprised, but the little chuckle that followed showed the other guy’s amusement.
Chris whipped his head around to identify the creep—only to find the stranger from his dream comfortably ensconced in his second sleeping bag.
"Israfil!" The breath he'd apparently held whooshed from his lungs in relief and he managed a tentative smile.
"You remember me now?" Israfil grinned.
"Yeah, sorry, I'm not a morning person, so it always takes me a while to wake up." He shrugged.
"No problem." Israfil's eyes crinkled in the nicest way when he smiled.
Chris turned onto his side, propping his head up on his hand so he could see better. For a few moments, he just stared at the other man, wanting to drown in his eyes. He'd had this reaction yesterday, and holding back hadn't been easy. But Israfil had been traumatized and lost his memory, so he reined himself in. Jumping his bones would not be helpful. When their hands had accidentally touched just before they fell asleep, the current of attraction that raced through him had taken his breath away. He hadn't been able to resist, telling himself holding hands was fine. The feeling of the other man's fingers entwined with his had remained with him, the memory making his skin tingle even now.
He'd never been attracted to anyone with this sort of intensity, and falling asleep touching the handsome stranger had been an amazing feeling. He needed to figure out how to make that happen again. Even if all they had was a few days, until Israfil's memory came back and they had to return to their real lives, he would treasure every moment.
The warm hand that slid along his, just like last night, delighted him. He kept looking at Israfil as they connected again.
