The command center was abuzz with activity. Technicians and tactical specialists flitted from station to station as they went about their duties. Ever since the outpost in Nevada was revealed on live television almost two weeks earlier, operations had increased to an almost frenetic tempo.

At the heart of it all, a large, circular table was set aside that provided a strategic overview for the higher-ups who oversaw global operations. Two figures stood side-by-side at the table. A light shone from the table's center, projecting an enormous holographic representation of the planet several feet above the table's surface. It rotated slowly, and labels extended from multiple points across the globe, indicating major cities on every inhabited continent.

Beside the holographic display table, the two Saurians stood silently, reviewing the material being displayed for them. Though illegible to any but the best-trained human eyes, the labels hovering above the gently rotating globe relayed a great deal of data: the name of each location, a number grading that location's threat assessment value, and a date and time stamp.

The unexpected revelation of the advanced reconnaissance forces on Earth to the general human population was distressing. Their plan had been for a much longer-term extermination of the humans, in a way that would preserve the planet and its resources to the greatest extent possible. Contingency plans had been drawn up, to be certain, but the outcome of a direct assault on humanity had always been a risky proposition at best.

The projections displayed on the globe seemed hopelessly optimistic to Strike Leader Kssarr. He had encountered humans before, and knew how effective they could be in combat. He shook his head and looked to his companion, Strike Leader Visz.

"We're not ready," he said in the gutteral, sibilant Saurian language.

"It doesn't matter," Visz replied. "We're out of time."
