The Case for Roads Infrastructure – Case Studies of Orbital Motorways

In order to deepen our investigation into the discourse in transport policy we now turn to three case studies of road infrastructure projects in order to assess the extent to which the storylines found in published transport policy are applied in practice in the decision documents used. Each city has seen the development of an orbital motorway, following the pattern set in many cities, for example the M25 in London and the Peripherique in Paris. Given the considerable length of time that orbital freeways take to come to final fruition, our case studies focus on the decision debate relating to one ‘link’ of the motorway. The main published document used for analysis was the environmental impact statement.
