Deirdre looked up from the notebook. "C'mon, Indy. Hurry up."

Restless now, she paced the room, the notebook tucked under her arm. She stopped by the bedside table and gazed at the red and black beads that the babalorixa had given Indy. She fingered them a moment, and recalled Joaquin's warning to Indy about the dangers that surrounded him. She made a fist and squeezed the string of beads, hoping that the forgotten talisman wasn't an omen.

She considered searching the nearby pubs for him. But she didn't like the idea of going out alone at night. She didn't know this city, and the pubs here weren't like the British ones, which welcomed everyone, including wives and grandparents and children. She glanced at the clock again. The pubs in her hometown of Whithorn, Scotland would've been closed for more than two hours.

She decided she'd read one more entry and if Indy wasn't back by then, she'd find a taxi and search the streets.
