Reception Counter

Reception counters tended to be poorly designed and failed to comply with Part M regulations. There was a lack of low counters at the Venue and Eliot College; no induction loops at the Registry, the Marlowe Building, the Venue and Eliot College; and no knee recess sections and insufficient manoeuvring space at the Registry, the Marlowe Building and Eliot College. Whilst some buildings provided a low counter for wheelchair users, for example the Jarman Building, either the counters were inappropriately positioned, so wheelchair users did not know that they existed (Fig. 5.9a); or the needs of those with hearing impairment were neglected (lack of induction loops, Fig. 5.9b); or there was an absence of signage even when induction loops were provided (Fig. 5.9a).
