E. Kulekhani Reservoir

Introduction

73. Kulekhani Reservoir was constructed in 1982 with a 114 m high dam on Kulekhani River. The reservoir is situated in the Mid-Hill of central Nepal and has a catchment area of 126 km2.54 At full capacity, the reservoir is about 7 km long, 380 m wide, and 105 m deep. The valley in which the reservoir is located has steep sides and variation in depth. The system consists of two power stations of Kulekhani No. 1 (KL-1) and No. 2 (KL-2), with a third KL-3 under construction. KL-1 is a reservoir type scheme having installed capacity of 60 MW, commissioned in 1982. KL-2 is a cascade scheme utilizing discharge from KL-1 with installed capacity of 32 MW and commissioned in 1986.
