Beyond the combination of several technologies, we believe the future trend is about integrating our four IA capabilities from Part Two (i.e., vision, execution, language, and thinking & learning) into a single technology. This will then act as a single interface: a genuine one-stop shop. By avoiding friction and external bridges, a single integrated technology would increase speed, response time, and data quality.

We think cognitive agents, such as Jamie (shown in Figure 3.5 ), could be a preliminary example of such a technology. Jamie is a cognitive agent created by ANZ Bank, a leading retail bank in New Zealand, to support prospects to open accounts and to help existing clients with their banking transactions. It is able to dialogue with people, to see (e.g., watch clients through their webcams and perform sentiment analysis), and to act (e.g., create a ticket to order a new credit card). And we expect to see Jamie’s capabilities expand dramatically in the future.
