Chapter 23—Naomi

I was kissing Alex. More importantly, she was kissing me back.

Her hands rested on my hips. Her lips were so soft. They tasted better than I imagined. Strawberries, and a mix of vanilla. And her hair smelled even better. Her scent was intoxicating. Everything about this moment was intoxicating.

I brushed a few stray pieces of chocolate brown hair behind her ear, letting my hand linger there.

I couldn’t believe this was really happening. I had dreams of this moment. Only this was better than any dream I had before. There were no words I could use to describe how I felt.

Ecstatic didn’t seem to cover it.

I rested my hands on the back of her neck, my thumb caressing her cheek.

In the midst of the kiss, we ended up on top of my bed. I’m not sure who initiated that, but Alex wasn’t protesting. I certainly wasn’t going to.

I wanted to do this since that first day I saw her. I was down the street, coming back from Craig’s house when I saw her. I still had a ways to go to get up to her, but even from far away I could tell how beautiful she was.

When I got up to her, I did the worst thing imaginable. I gave her the dirtiest of looks. When in reality, all I wanted to do was smile at her.

I wanted to talk to her. To know her.

I wanted to know everything there was to know about Alexandra Chamberlain.

Alex’s hands grazed the skin under my shirt. I jumped back, suddenly remembering why I hadn’t kissed her yet up until now. Why I was such a bitch to her.

I wasn’t out.

We both sat up on the bed, our legs hanging over the side. Alex looked just as jumbled as I did. She was touching her lips as if she was trying to figure out if what just happened really happened.

Our eyes finally met for a brief moment. She cleared her throat. “Um, I should go.”

I stayed quiet for a moment, trying desperately for words to come to me. I wanted to say something to her. Something to make her know that I didn’t regret what just happened, but that I wasn’t capable of letting it go any further. Even though I wanted it to so badly. “Yeah. Yeah you should go.”

Dammit.

Alex got up from the bed and within seconds she was gone. The only proof of what just happened was the faint taste of strawberries and vanilla still lingering on my lips.

What did I do? What did I do?
