Chapter 14

I was unbelievably nervous, twisting my hands together over and over, as I sat there in the parking lot Friday night. I kept looking at the door to the hotel, just staring at it hauntingly. My fingers toying with my wedding rings interminably. I’d reluctantly agreed to meet David for drinks tonight at the hotel bar. Just, drinks! All with Ben’s knowledge, approval and encouragement, of course. He was practically dancing with excitement over my ‘date.’ Exactly what he expected to happen, or wanted to happen, was left unsaid. My intent was just drinks, letting David down easy. Reminding him I was a married woman, not to mention several years older than he was.

I was supposed to have met him fifteen minutes ago. I was just having trouble convincing myself to walk in. Ben had helped me choose the outfit I was wearing today. The dress a simple white fabric, seeming almost virginal. Nearly, but not quite, inappropriate for work. Extremely short with a low, plunging neckline, it really was too revealing for the office. Catching the interest of several of my male coworkers. The fuck me heels I had on, didn’t help, either. Ben’s idea, as well.
