Creativity can often be achieved by taking a very obvious message and expressing it in a very un-obvious way.

The city of Naples wanted to show that the buildings of Naples were crumbling, in order to raise money to restore them. They asked designer John McConnell to create a poster to make the point.

Instead of the obvious route of showing bits falling off the buildings, John spelt out the name of the city in elegant typography, and showed bits falling off the letters.

The decay of the city’s name becomes a brilliant metaphor for the decay of the city itself.
