Following such practices will actually be detrimental to your search ranking, so steer clear of them.
The best advice I can give you is to create a website that truly represents what you are selling, and optimize the site from that standpoint. You will optimize for keyword, keyword placement, theme, domain name, content, tags, meta tags, and links. The following is a detailed description of how you will optimize the abovementioned categories:
⪠Keywords: When optimizing your website, keyword placement within the text of your site is imperative. Think about what types of keywords people would use in searching for the type of product you are selling. Keywords that are too general will give you a lower ranking because there is simply too much competition. So, what you need to do is come up with a keyword that is specific enough for the type of product you are selling. In my case, I am in the business of selling pearls. So, a keyword search for âpearlsâ would be too general because other sites about pearls (not necessarily online retail sites, but sites that contain the word âpearl,â such as âPearl Harborâ) would likely show up in the search. But using the keyword âpearl jewelryâ is specific enough because people who want to buy pearls would most likely be buying jewelry made of pearls. Keywords that do not appropriately represent your product can generate the wrong kind of traffic to your website. General keywords tend to produce too many results, and your page ranking will suffer as a result. Using a service such as Wordtracker can help you determine how users are searching for your product. Wordtracker lists the various keywords that potential customers would use and creates a database that determines the frequency of the keyword search. Remember that keyword relevancy affects the quality of traffic on your site. A high-ranking website that attracts the wrong traffic is useless, and it is not efficient, especially if you subscribe to pay-per-click advertising.
