Accessibility to the United States

You can fly direct to Paris from New York; Newark; Washington, D.C.; Philadelphia; Charlotte; Atlanta; Miami; Houston; Chicago; Los Angeles; Seattle; and San Francisco. The flight time from Paris to New York is eight hours; to Miami it’s ten hours and fifteen minutes; to Los Angeles it’s eleven hours and thirty minutes.

Language

You can get by in Paris with little to no French, but it will limit your experience of the city. Plus a little effort to learn the language goes a long way with the French. I heartily recommend, therefore, that you invest two or three weeks at least in an immersion program at Accord École de Langues (www.accord-langues.com) in Paris, near l’Opéra. One week of study, including twenty hours, is about 330 euros. Another option in Paris is Alliance Française (www.alliancefr.org), where twenty hours of study a week for one to three weeks is about $300 per week. In Languedoc, Real Adventures (www.realadventures.com/g607_languedoc-roussillon-france-vacations.htm?mRegionType=Educational%3A+Language+Schools) offers full-immersion programs starting at about $300 per week.
