30 Lake of the Woods Lookout

YOUR BEARINGS

21 miles northeast of Gold Beach, Oregon

AVAILABILITY Depending upon the weather, the lookout is available May 1st through October 30th. During periods of intense summer storms a Forest Service Fire Officer may need to use the lookout for short periods of time to spot fires. We ask for your cooperation if this occurs. If you spot a fire while at the lookout, report it to the Forest Service immediately.

CAPACITY The building accommodates one to four people.

DESCRIPTION The R6 (Flat Roofed) cabin, originally a ground house, was flown by helicopter to the present location and placed on an 8-foot tower with a catwalk. It was placed on its current site in 1974. Lake of the Woods Lookout was staffed during fire season from 1974 to 1996. Declining fire budgets have not allowed for staffing of the lookout since this time.

COST $40 per night. This money is used for maintenance and renovation of the Lookout.

RESERVATIONS Reservations run from noon to noon and may not extend longer than five days. Call the toll-free National Recreation Reservation Service (1-877-444-6777) or make your reservations online at www.ReserveUSA.com.
