Remove Suckers

Suckers are shoots that arise from below ground level. These should be pulled or cut away. If left alone or only cut above soil level they will just grow into a mess around the base of your tree.

Ornamental trees such as plum and cherry trees that have had a flowering part of a tree grafted on to a root of another tree. The idea is to provide flowers on a strong reliable root system. The root part of this partnership is the part that determines the vigor of the tree. Suckers are a serious problem for these types of trees and if left unchecked will cause the eventual decline of the flowering part of the tree.
