We climbed up onto our incredible mounts, which rose up on their four legs. My heart was beating faster than ever when I saw how Houlz’s wings move, and slowly and softly we rose up toward the clouds.

Scheme and Volume

The scheme represented the dragon flying directly toward the viewer. The swooping neck (brown) reflected the determination of the animal in its flight, and the waving tail increased the sensation of movement.

The extended limbs (green) demonstrated the tension and effort to move forward quickly, and having its wings go out beyond the edge of the canvas increased the sensation of open space. The man riding on the dragon (blue) was holding on to the reins with one hand, while his other hand was held aloft in a gesture of celebration.
