The above scripture shows us what bad friends can to our destiny. If you want to be a blessed and successful individual, do not walk in the counsel of ungodly people. This means that you should not fashion your life according to the advice of the wrong friends. Do not keep company with those who do wrong things, and run away from people whose business is to laugh at others who are trying to fulfill their destiny. Make friends with God’s word, and keep company with people who will encourage you to go to church and also help you to fulfill your destiny. Then you shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, and you will make progress and produce tangible results every season.

The friends we keep are really important, because some people can bring destruction into your life. With some people you meet you can lose everything you ever worked for and perhaps even lose your life if care is not taken. As in the case of Jonah in Jonah1:1-17, because of his actions those who were around him lost all their property and almost lost their lives. There are some friends who are like Achan in the Bible (Joshua 7). When you meet them your life will become a mess; they will pull you back and eventually make you lose your life. There are also people who will bring sunshine and blessings into your life, much like Joseph and Potiphar in Genesis 39:3 and Jacob and Laban in Genesis 30:27-30.

Avoid toxic friends; choose carefully whom you want to be friends with, and let it be predicated upon their ability to help you succeed in life. Learn to sit down and ask yourself “what has this friendship added to my life?” If a friend or relationship does not add any value to your life, then end it. You should not attend some churches, because they will ruin your destiny through their wrong prophecies and ill advice. Some will tell you that God wants you to marry a certain person only for you to regret later. If God wants to reveal whom you should marry, he will not show it to your pastor or church member, but you. Ask God to direct you; he says in Jeremiah 3:15,

And I will give you pastors according

to mine heart, which shall feed you with

knowledge and understanding.
