Note that if your stock is trading at its historical multiples, rather than below them, you can still argue that it is trading at a reasonable or attractive valuation, especially if it is a company that is performing well and growing quickly. If a stock is trading at its average multiple, but it is going to grow earnings 25% per year, then if you multiply the next year’s earnings by the same average multiple, you will automatically get 25% upside. You are making the assumption here that the stock can maintain this multiple for at least the next year.
