Becket Hitches

The single becket hitch (left illustration) is simply a sheet bend where the loop of the larger line is a fixed eye.

A second turn before tucking produces the double becket hitch (middle and right illustrations).

As with the sheet bend, becket hitches are most useful when the rope forming the eye is of larger diameter. Note, however, that the knot is not very secure. It should never be considered permanent.
