CHAPTER FOURTEENâNicholas
It was good to see Cami away from the Keane residence for once; as Nicholas led his mate toward his suite in the Overton home, he thought about how bizarre their lives would look to someone on the outsideâeven to other wealthy people. He hadnât spent more than a night in his own family home in weeks, and once things were more settled with Cami, and the kids were a little older, she would likely spend as much time at other houses as she did in the Keane residence. But that depended on a lot of factors.
âSo, he wants to join team Cami?â Nicholas asked his mate, as she stepped into his room. He closed the door behind them, watching as Cami threw herself with elegant nonchalance onto the big couch near the window, looking up at him with amusement in her eyes and a wry smile on her lips.
âThatâs what heâd have me believe, anyway,â Cami said.
Nicholas sat on the edge of his bed, watching his mate with appreciation. There was a small part of him that hoped that theyâd be able to discuss the topic at hand with enough time left over afterwards to enjoy the solitude.
âAnd his proposal is that you do the deed to his sister?â Nicholas asked.
Cami nodded. âApparently sheâs every bit the black sheep the rumors led us to expect,â Cami said. âAlternately, thereâs the possibility heâs setting me up, but he threatened to go to Miranda for help, if I didnât agree to his proposition.â
âBut he doesnât want to be one of your mates,â Nicholas said.
âHe pointed outârightly enoughâthat I have four mates already; itâs hardly illustrious for anyone who comes next in line,â Cami said. âBut I do think he expects a certain amount of physicality to take place.â
âHe wants a piece of ass and an alliance with a woman who can shut his sister down,â Nicholas mused. âI mean ⦠I canât blame him.â
âNo one can blame him; itâs just a question of if I want to go through with it, given everything else,â Cami said.
âThe biggest thingâafter deciding if you want to take his offerâis to make sure that Miranda doesnât either,â Nicholas pointed out.
Cami tilted her head back against the arm of the couch, looking up at the ceiling with an expression on her face that Nicholas knew meant that she was looking at the issue from more than one angle, that she was tilting it this way and that in her mind, trying to see the various possible outcomes.
âI think theyâre running a game on us,â Cami said.
Nicholas raised an eyebrow. âGo on,â he prompted.
âI mean, really digging into it, I think theyâre running separate games on us,â Cami said. âNima has been getting pretty cozy with Jordan and Jamie both; Jordan let me know that sheâd sort of propositioned him.â
âSo is he on board to play distraction?â Nicholas asked.
Cami shook her head. âNo, he wants to see where it goes, but heâs not in the distraction game anymore, and Iâm not going to push him to be,â Cami said.
