“Katie?” I called her later than night. “Can you come over for breakfast? Darren will be here. I want you two to meet as soon as possible.”

I could hear the caution under her optimism. “I’m glad you’re open. And we don’t have to go that far anytime soon. First things first, let’s share a coffee and get to know each other—all three of us.”
