I was actually looking forward to going to work that Monday. In fact, I had started to look forward to work way more often lately than ever before. I wasn’t sure why, it was just more fun having Aisha as company. It had been nice to see her outside of work too over the weekend, as well as Elijah and their parents.

I had almost finished with all the morning chores when Aisha rushed through the door, a wild look in her eyes and completely out of breath.

“Aisha, is everything okay?”

She nodded and pressed a hand to her chest. “I overslept. I never oversleep. Sorry I’m late.”

“Hey, don’t worry about it,” I said and smiled at her distressed state. “Deep breaths, okay?”

She nodded. “Okay. I’ll just go grab my apron and then I’ll come help you.”

I laughed quietly to myself as she hurried off to the back. Her big eyes had seemed even bigger as she had come inside. It was pretty cute. It didn’t take long before she joined me again.

“So, where do you need me today?”

“Actually, I’ve taken care of most of the morning stuff,” I said. “And there aren’t any customers at the moment, so you can just take it easy.”

“Right,” she said, looking around. “Look, I didn’t mean to leave you with all the morning tasks all by yourself. I just…”

“Aisha.” I grabbed her arm gently, looking into her eyes. “It’s fine, I promise. How about we do that drawing thing we talked about?”

She bit her bottom lip, looking down at her feet. “You want me to draw you right now?”

“Yeah, that’d be really cool. And since there aren’t any customers, we might as well kill some time.”

“I don’t have my sketchbook.”

I grinned. “If only we had access to pen and paper.” I pretended to think. “Oh, wait!”

She finally smiled, her nerves seemingly going away a little bit. “Ha-Ha. You’re very funny.”

“I know.”

“So Dave won’t mind if we take some stuff?” she asked.

I shook my head. “We’re not stealing the top-shelf paints or anything. Just a piece of paper and a pencil. He won’t care.”

She nodded, looking around. “Okay. One second, I’ll get the stuff.”

“I’ll go pose by the counter then,” I called out after her.

I hurried to place myself in an exaggerated pose, leaning on the counter and putting one arm behind my head. Aisha stopped when she saw me, and then she broke out laughing.

“What do you say?” I asked, wiggling my eyebrows at her. “Am I America’s next top model?”

“I think you need to smile more,” she said, shaking her head at me. I straightened, the pose was kind of hurting my back.

“Seriously though, where should I stand?” I asked. “Or should I sit?”

“It’s up to you,” she said. “Although, the window by the counter is letting in a lot of light. So maybe stand behind there, you can sit or stand, I don’t really care either way.”

I nodded and went behind the counter like she asked. “This way you won’t get my gorgeous legs.
