From our first night together, the Miracle and I are inseparable. During the two months that we stay in Del Mar, we walk along the shore daily and never miss a sunset. On one of our hikes, we see two blackbirds flying in a tight circle, rising and falling with the sea breezes.

They climb and then lock together in a free fall toward the ground, each time pulling up right before impact. This goes on for a while before they suddenly veer off in different directions. I feel as if their aerial acrobatics may symbolize my dance with the Miracle. How long will we have? I wonder. Will we share just a few weeks here at the beach, and then part? Or will we be blessed with an all-too-brief lifetime together?
