Chapter Seven

Chantel

Waking up in the warmth of Baker’s arms is better than biscuits baking in the morning.

Waking up in Paris in a loving embrace from the sexiest, sweetest, and most sensuous man I have ever met is better than even the best sweets. Knowing that I am falling in love with him—and maybe him with me—as he takes me to the most romantic city in the world is the sweet cream on top.

“Are we there yet?” I murmur as I snuggle into his bare chest, tangling my legs with his and sighing happily.

“We just landed. Let me get you in some clothes so we can head to the hotel. We can sleep in then I will take you ladies on a tour of the city. We can eat whatever you want, baby,” his knuckles skim over my cheek before he tips my head back.

Our eyes meet in the dim light of the plane’s suite. The softness in his eyes as he watches me takes my breath away. For so long, I truly believed I would never find someone for me. I baked pies and sweets and chocolates to fill the parts of me that were empty. Kady, Emma, and some of our other friends made it better, of course. But once I was left with just my sweets, I resigned myself to the fact that baking was all the love I’d ever truly have.

Baker makes me believe I can have everything.

“You are the most amazing man I have ever met. I don’t know everything about you yet, but I know that. I know what matters. How is it I am the one here with you?”

“Maybe because you are the most amazing woman I have ever met. I’ve seen the world, Chantel. You bake to fill those empty spaces in you—I pack a bag and get on a plane. I meet people every single day; people who want me because of my name, because of my money, because of what I can offer them. You never asked about any of that. I believe you don’t care if I am rich or poor. You just care.”

“You are enough to care about, if you ask me. But, I mean.... are you rich?” I assume as much given he admitted he owns an airline, dresses like a model, and whisked me to Paris for the day.

“You could say that. I would say I have wealth my family built—I would trade every penny to have them back. I can offer you anything you want in the world, Chantel. Anything you ask, I will give you.”

“I just want you,” I whisper as tightness fills my chest and emotion stings my eyes, “and some macaroons,” I tease, kissing at the golden skin of his chest.

“You have me,” he tips my head back to smile at me, his eyes crinkling, “I want some of your sweets. You promised to bake for me, so at the hotel we will make that happen. Come on now, before you make me hungry for something sweeter than macaroons,” he kisses me and slaps my backside playfully.
