I felt Dai stiffen as soon as we walked into the diner. Not sure what the problem was, I grabbed his hand. âDai? Whatâs wrong?â I followed his gaze to two men not much older than I was, sitting at the counter talking with Janice. They turned, and I knew immediately they were Daiâs fathers. One man had Daiâs brown hair with copper running through it. Daiâs hair had more highlights and varying colors of reds and golds, from living outside for so many weeks. Instead of Daiâs blue eyes, though, this man had green eyes. The other man had dark hair, but his eyes. Those were Dai all over again. They were the same brilliant blue that my omega had inherited.
âDad, Poppy! What are you doing here? I thought I told you I would discuss a visit with my alpha and get back to you.â Daiâs hand gripped mine and squeezed like he didnât want to let go. I squeezed his hand back, trying to reassure him I was okay with meeting his fathers.
âWe didnât plan to just spring a surprise visit on you, son.â The taller man with the dark hair and Daiâs eyes stepped forward and embraced my omega. He shifted aside, allowing the other man with the copper hair to join their embrace. I swallowed the lump that had formed in my throat at seeing these three men embrace. Dai had talked about how much he loved his fathers. Even while on the run, he said he had called them regularly to let them know he was still alive and surviving. Seeing them together again lightened my heart.
The men separated, and I reached out to Dai, placing my arm on his shoulders and bringing him in close. I smiled at the men in greeting, reaching out a hand to first one and then the other. âHello. Iâm Jace. Daiâs alpha.â
The men had firm handshakes and didnât try to out-maneuver or intimidate me in any way during the shake. They both had smiles on their faces that seemed genuine. The dark haired man introduced himself as David. âYou can call me Poppy, son.â
The shorter man with the flaming hair so much like my omegaâs hair was Stephen. âBut you can call me Dad. Iâm very pleased to meet such a well-mannered alpha for my little Dai.â Daiâs omega father was a warm man whose green eyes twinkled as he spoke.
I led them to an empty booth at the back of the diner where we could have some privacy. Janice came over and I ordered Daiâs favorite meal of kielbasa and peppers over rice for all of us. It was a family recipe from back home that was a house specialty and a popular item on the dinerâs menu. Janice got everyoneâs drink orders.
We all sat at the table, and Janice had their drinks in no time. David spoke first. âRogerâs fathers came to see us yesterday. They were upset and at first we couldnât understand what they were saying.
