Rail motor No. 6 from 1921 is pictured at Shimla in October 1927. The rear compartment is for the mail carriage, important in the days when India was governed from Shimla. W.H. KELLAND/BOURNEMOUTH RAILWAY CLUB TRUST

The little inspection car delivered in 1931 seems to be a scaled-down miniature of the larger passenger cars. It is now preserved in the National Rail Museum, New Delhi, where it was pictured in 1998.

The trio of rail motors delivered in 1927 represented quite an advance over the earlier cars. No. 2, previously numbered 9, is here pictured at Shimla in May 1998. Modernization of the body, incorporating a translucent roof, has changed their appearance, possibly not for the better. Note the carriage behind, which has also been updated.
