Chapter 10

Laney couldn’t believe he had just been in a shootout with Hera’s army and won. Well, for now they won, but damn, that was cutting it close. It was a good thing that Micah had thought to contact Jason and his Argonauts before coming here in case there was trouble. Jason had insisted that he and his men stay out of sight, so if there were any problems, they would have the upper hand. However, right now, his hands wouldn’t stop shaking.

“Are you all right, Laney?” Murray asked him in concern.

Laney looked at his friend, whispering, “I think so. It must be the adrenaline. You did so good, Murray. I can’t believe you are such a good marksman.”

Murray gave him a huge smile, saying, “Polly got me a PS4 with these really cool shooting games. He said the kids play them here in the lands below, and it would give me something to do when he was away. A bunch of us get together and play once a week. I’m the top player right now. You’re welcome to join us the next time we play.”

Smiling, Laney replied, “I’d like that. I never played video games before.”

Murray’s eyes went huge. “Really? I thought everyone in the lands below played these games.”

Shaking his head, Laney replied, “Not everyone. I mostly read, but I’d like to learn.”

“I’d be glad to teach you,” Murray said excitedly. Then he seemed to sadden. “It’s just really different killing a guy on a game and doing it in person.”

Laney hugged the little guy close, saying, “I know, Murray, but had we not done it, they would have killed us.”

Micah looked out the window and squealed so loud, Laney was surprised his ears didn’t start bleeding. Twisting to grab the gun he had set down, he was ready to shoot the first man that walked through the door.

“Hercules is here!” Micah screamed and rushed to the front door.

Deb stepped in front of the door, with her arms crossed. “You’re not going out there until Jason gives us the all clear.”

Laney walked to the window and was surprised to see that all their mates were outside and talking to Deimos and Jason.

“Deb, move out of my way. Hercules is out there, and so are Cronos and the others,” Micah said through gritted teeth.

Shaking her head, Deb replied, “I want to see my mate more than you know, but I don’t care how pissed you get with me, Micah. I am not letting you or any of the others out this door until Jason gives us the all clear.”

Deb opened her hand and a small electrical spark went from one finger to the next. “This won’t kill you, but I do know it will hurt like a bitch. Now back up and wait along with the rest of us.”

Micah turned to walk away, muttering, “That zapper isn’t the only bitch in this room.”

Laney watched as Deb pointed her finger at Micah’s ass and let out a tiny thread of electricity.
